Johana Eliška Tomková née en 1991, République Tchèque.

Je suis étudiante en design graphique à l’université J. E. Purkyne d’Ustí nad Labem. Lorsque j’étais au lycée à Prague, la calligraphie était déjà une de mes passions (mon grand-père, Ivan Tomek, était un calligraphe amateur, mais passionné). En conséquence, j’ai décidé de suivre des études supérieures d’art et de design. Même si je considère la calligraphie comme mon passe-temps favori, je profite des compétences ainsi acquises dans mes autres travaux et je commence beaucoup de mes projets à la main. En regardant les anciens maîtres calligraphes, je suis inspirée par leur talent, je préfère m’exprimer à travers une calligraphie plus libre et en plein air (calligraffiti) ou des lettrages illustrés. 

J’ai participé à l’exposition « Předlice University » en 2012, à la Galerie nationale de Prague. J’ai aussi la chance de participer à la promotion du théâtre municipal de Kladno et de créer son identité visuelle en 2013. L’année dernière j’ai étudié à l’étranger, tout d’abord à Linz (Autriche) et à l’institut de technologie de Holon (Israël) où j’ai étudié la calligraphie hébraïque. 

À côté de la calligraphie et du design, j’aime le sport, les voyages (surtout au Moyen-Orient et dans les Balkans), explorer différentes cultures et apprendre des langues.

I'm a student of graphic design (currently in my 4^th year BC) at J. E. Purkyne University in Usti nad Labem. While studying high school in Prague, calligraphy had already been my meaningful hobby (my grandfather Ivan Tomek was a passionate amateur calligrapher). Therefore I decided to apply for further studies at Art&Design University. Though I consider calligraphy my favourite hobby I still profit a lot from the previously obtained skills and I commence most of my design projects manually. Looking back for the old calligraphy masters and being inspired by their proficiency, I preferably express myself through free calligraphy art expanding to the open space (calligraffiti) and illustrated handwriting.

I took part in the “Předlice University” exhibition 2012 in the National Gallery in Prague. I also appreciate that I could contribute to promotion of the Municipal Theatre in Kladno and create its new visual identity in 2013. The last academic year I studied abroad – I had two internships, one at the Kunstuniversität Linz, Austria, and the Holon Institute of Technology, Israel, where I studied Hebrew calligraphy (Project “Cross the Jordan River”, 2014).

Besides of calligraphy and design I'm into sports (swimming and running) and travelling/hiking (to the Middle East and Balkan area mostly), exploring different cultures, learning languages.

She's still student but already has a great talent. She writes in Czech and Hebrew, on various support (such as a bridge, in Tel Aviv, where she tells the crossing of the Jordan, sang by Helena Vondráčková, in Czechoslovakia, in 1968).

Vlada Shamova - Présentation

Vlada Shamova née en 1990, Biélorussie / Lituanie / République Tchèque.

Je suis Vlada, je suis née en Biélorussie en 1990. J'ai finis le lycée puis l'école d'art de ma ville natale Grodno avant de quitter en 2008, à l'âge de 17 ans, mon pays pour étudier à l'étranger. Je suis sortie major de l'European Humanities University de Vilnius en design graphique et médias. Là, j'ai rencontré une personne exceptionnelle qui m'a fait tomber amoureuse de la calligraphie. Son nom est Albertas Gurskas, très talentueux et célèbre professeur de calligraphie en Lituanie. Bien sur, par la suite j'ai rencontré d'autres calligraphes importants de différents pays, avec des œuvres et des styles extraordinaires, mais Albertas reste celui qui m'a ouverte à ce monde. C'est lui qui a fait cesser ma peur de la feuille blanche. Il nous a appris à libérer notre esprit, à utiliser l'espace et toute la variété de matériaux que nous pourrions trouver, parce que rien n'est impossible. Aujourd'hui je suis en master à l'académie d'Art, d'Architecture et de Design de Prague. Je suis très heureuse d'y être, l'atmosphère est très artistique et libre, exceptionnelle pour se découvrir à travers l'art et tant d'autres choses. Je fais une grande variété de travaux ici : design graphique, film d'animation en pâte à modeler, un peu d'art moderne, bijouterie, ateliers de commissariat d'expositions. Au fond de mon cœur, je conserve toujours ma passion et mon amour pour la calligraphie, tout en cherchant quelque chose de neuf dans l'art du lettrage qui est pour moi comme de la musique.


Vlada Shamova born in 1990, Belarus / Lithuania / Czech Republic.
I'm Vlada, was born in Belarus in 1990. Finished the lyceum and art school in my native town Grodno and left my country to study abroad in the age of 17 in 2008. Finished my bachelor studying in EHU, Vilnius, Lithuania ("Graphic design and media" program) as the best student of the year. There I've met an outstanding person, who made me feel in love with calligraphy. His name is Albertas Gurskas, very talented and famous in Lithuania professor of calligraphy. Of course, after I met other important calligraphers from different countries, with amazing works and styles, but Albertas was the one who opened this world for me. It was him, who stopped my fear of the blank paper, he tought us to free our mind, use the space and all the variety of materials we could find, because nothing is impossible. 
Now I'm making MA in the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague, Czech Republic and very happy to be here, atmosphere here is very artistic  and free, amazing for discovering yourself in art and so many things around. I'm making the great variety of different things here as graphic design, stop motion  plasticine animation, pieces of modern art, jewelry, curating workshops and exhibitions. 

But still I have passion and love for calligraphy in my heart and trying to find something new in this art of lettering, which is like music for me.
